Bible Story Series: To be set apart

The story of a man who since birth had been sent to be special. He was instructed from birth that he could not drink wine or beer; couldn’t eat grapes or raisins, not shave his hair and not go near a dead body. As a chosen Nazarite he was made special by God.

The invitation is the same for us Christians. As believers, we are also special. For we are chosen by God and set apart for His work. In Ephesians 1:4 the Bible states “Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes” We are to be "holy," a word meaning "set apart." Similar to Samson the Nazarite.

In the book of Acts, we meet the missionary couple, Aquila and Priscilla. Once Emperor Claudius ordered all the Jews to leave Rome, they left and became tentmakers in Corinth. Where they met Paul and joined him on the mission to spread the news about Jesus and even gathered people in their home for church. They even risked their lives doing God’s work. There is a cost to being set apart.
